Estimating & Procurement Manager
Mirella came to Corbel following the successful completion of her BSc in Construction Project Management in which she obtained a First Class Honours and an award for her dissertation research into Historic dwellings and energy performance. Prior to her degree she undertook a 3 year apprenticeship at Canterbury Cathedral as a Stonemason, qualifying in 2015. During this time she was selected to be part of the WorldSkills Architectural Masonry Squad, an achievement she particularly valued due to the underrepresentation of women in the WorldSkills Construction Team. During the 3rd year of her degree, Mirella spent a year in industry working as a Quantity Surveyor on an £18 million leisure centre with a Tier 1 Main Contractor learning about the commercial side of mainstream construction.
Mirella has been at Corbel now for a year and a half; in this time she has successfully managed two projects. The first and likely favourite was the conservation of a Medieval Hall within a home. Works included the complete conservation of the roof and structure, a new oriel window, masonry repairs and the inclusion of luxury underfloor heating. The second was a phase of works at the prestigious Dyrham Park, a National Trust property near Bath which involved creating exciting new museum space within some of their rooms.
Since then, Mirella has transitioned into Pre-Construction and Estimating, a natural progression given the diversity of her previous experience. She is greatly enjoying her new role and has been given the flexibility to bring her own ideas to the position.
