PEAR TREE COTTAGE: REORDERING
South Gloucestershire

The core of Pear Tree Cottage is approximately 300 years old and several campaigns of extensions have enlarged the original cottage as illustrated below.

The client required alterations to improve the kitchen, make the most of the garden and add a bedroom and bathroom.

Located in 'Green Belt' limited options for further extensions. A Feasibility Study made a full analysis of the existing cottage, the brief, environmental factors, historic development, and existing built volumes to establish a way forward.

The proposal removes a poor late C20th kitchen extension to reveal the historic cottage rear elevation. The layout is rationalised and a new kitchen extension sympathetically contrasts with the restored cottage to create a courtyard and open up the interior to the southern aspect. A new dormer added to a 1980's extension creates an upstairs bathroom.
